ABOUT
Join us for a special gathering at St. Francis Church in Tairua, nestled in the heart of New Zealand’s Coromandel, for two days of prayer, teaching, rest, and quiet communion. Together, we will step into the ancient practice of beholding prayer —guided by Strahan Coleman, pray-er, poet, and author of Beholding: Deepening Our Experience in God.
In Beholding, Strahan weaves the poetic and the practical, exploring what it means to move from a transactional relationship with God to a friendship. He reveals prayer not as conscious mental dialogue alone, but a deeply satisfying inter-being with God. In this prayer school, you’ll be taught the theology of beholding prayer, hear Strahan’s story, get practical about exactly how to pray, and learn how to lead others in beholding prayer.
The course is based on Strahan’s book but will also include new teaching and practices not included in it and includes a focus on the church and leading others in this way of prayer and being.
These prayer schools aren’t only about content, they’re about being in prayer together and experiencing the depth, love and community that arises for sharing God together.
On this course we’ll cover
A biblical definition of beholding prayer
A deeper understanding of the gospel of friendship with God
A theology of abiding in the trinity
How prayer effects our neurology
The difference between meditation and contemplation
The journey of prayer throughout our lives
Techniques for practicing beholding prayer
How to lead others in this form of prayer
What beholding communities can look like
A contemplative/charismatic framework for prayer
What to Expect
This isn’t just a school; it’s an invitation to pause, to be nourished, and to dwell in stillness. The days will be framed by shared meals, teaching sessions, experiences in the nature and beauty of Tairua, guided prayer, and plenty of time to reflect, rest, and connect with others.
